Bottom of Tank #67 of leading oil company in Malaysia
Project:
Tank Bottom Of Tank No. 67
Location:
Miri Crude Oil Terminal (MCOT), Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Applicator:
Eastern Energy Services Sdn Bhd
Date
Of Application: June 2000
The Challenge:
The crude oil tank has been in service for over a
decade and entire area is heavily corroded. The client wants to
do a good rehabilitation job that will fit their budget and at
the same time attain long-term protection for this structure.
There is no more trace of the existing tank coating and deep pits
due to corrosion are scattered on the entire area.
Requirement:
Abrasive blasting and filling up all deep pits by
welding or replacing the deteriorated steel plates was the recommendation
of their in-house maintenance. If said steel plates passed the
thickness gauging, then the pitting can be filled up by Corro-Dur
561 instead of welding which is much cheaper, faster and will
perform well. Corro-Dur 258 was used to coat the entire bottom
of the tank at 400 to 600 microns dry film thickness.
The Corro-Dur products were primarily
selected for this job since it is 100% solids, environment and
user friendly. It
can withstand different petroleum products and other chemicals. It can be applied on wet, damp or wet surfaces and good adhesion
can be obtained even if the surface preparation is power tool
or high pressure washing, but to attain maximum performance, abrasive
blasting is recommended.
