The Challenge:

Close Drain Caisson of Jerneh-A production platform in Offshore
Terengganu, Malaysia has a leaking problem from a broken 4.5”
elbow at 40 ft deep from sea level. The leaking should be stopped
as soon as possible and they need a product that can seal off
the leak since replacing the entire length of the pipe and underwater
welding would too expensive.
Solution:
Corroserv
(M) Sdn Bhd was asked to see the problem via an under water videotape
and discussed the procedure on how Corro-Dur 561/Corro-Wrap can
be applied by divers on a fabricated elbow pipe joints. Corro-Dur
561 underwater anti-corrosive epoxy was applied on power tool
cleaned surface at a minimum thickness of 2000 microns followed
by 10 Layers of Corro-Wrap and finally a steel clamp was installed
to hold both joints.
Result:
The Corro-Dur/Corro-Wrap
products used in this repair allowed rapid restoration of the
pipeline with minimum disruption to normal operations. Final cost
of the repair was a small fraction of the alternative costs including
possible complete replacement of the pipeline in an environmentally
sensitive location.
