Crude Oil Lines (Buried) of a leading international oil producer in Indonesia Project: Crude Oil Lines (Buried) Location: Indonesia Applicator: CV Dian Indah Lestari Date of Application: September 1999 The Challenge: The delivery lines measuring 4” in dia connecting their oil well in the Minas Field had to be frequently replaced within a period of 12 – 18 months regularly because of leaks due to corrosion of the externals primarily due to their exposure to the existing volcanic soil / moisture. Current protection exercises by applying a coat of bituminous epoxies have failed to solve the corrosion problems. The Recommendation: Corro-Dur 258 was used for this project mainly for the following reasons: 1) Environment & user friendly 2) Long term protection 3) Ease of application 4) Resistant to the fluctuating humid environment System Specification: 1) Grind /Wire brush to remove mill scale from New Pipes. 2) Carry out a stripe coat of Corro-Dur 258 on all edges/corners by brush 3) Apply Corro-Dur 258 in two passes to achieve a minimum of 350- 400 microns dft. 4) Allow to dry for 2 hrs & install Conclusion: Coating was carried out as per above specification & installed within 8 working hours thus reducing down time drastically & also to ensure that the buried pipeline is protected adequately
