Cold Applied On-Line Rehabilitation of Pipeline by Wet Lay-Up
and Corro-Wrap System for Lawit-A
Project: Cold Applied On-Line Rehabilitation of Pipeline by Wet Lay-Up
and Corro – Wrap System For Lawit – A
Location : Dayang Enterprise Fabrication Shop in Kemaman
Supply Base
Applicator: Corroserv (M) Sdn Bhd
Date of Application:
September 2003
The Challenge:
Previous
experience of the owner with regards to their splash zone / sub-sea
pipelines does not meet the predicted life span of the material.
Even with the use of stainless steel pipes does not assure them
of long service life due to heat-affected zone (HAZ) that is prone
to premature corrosion failure. A corrosion resistant product
is needed to provide additional protection against corrosion for
these pipelines to prolong their service life and at the same
time can be applied in splash zone and underwater areas.
Solution:
To provide a cost effective pipe rehabilitation system,
Corroserv (M) Sdn. Bhd. recommends the use of COLD APPLIED FIBERGLASS (FRP) WET LAY-UP in conjunction with CORRO-DUR 561 / 258 on straight
sections and T joints of the 4” stainless steel pipelines
with a total length of 16 meters at the fabrication shop. While
the T-joint connections shall be installed in the offshore platform
and wrapped with CORRO-WRAP a fiberglass
cloth impregnated with a resin that is activated by salt or fresh
water and also used in conjunction with CORRO-DUR 561 / 258. Previous
work done on a broken 4” elbow drain caisson pipeline at
40 ft deep in Jerneh-A platform also owned by EMEPMI and then
placing it back in service after it has cured proves it is the
ideal material for this application.
Result:
The combination
of the FRP WET LAY-UP and CORRO-WRAP in conjunction with CORRO-DUR
561 / 258 proved to be practical and affordable. The client not
only saves on costly rehabilitation but also provides their pipelines
same protection benefits even if it were done above or under water.
