Project: Q-1409 Diversion Sump at Area 200 (Oleflex Unit) Location: Gebeng Industrial Estate, Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia Applicator: Corroserv (M) Sdn Bhd Date of Application: October 2003 The Challenge: This underground concrete wastewater tank measuring 6.4 meters x 4.2 meter and a height of 3.4 meter is in service for the last 12 years. Concrete cracks and spalling (concrete degradation) have developed over the years and accumulated wastewater at elevated temperatures tends to leak out and mix with ground water. Repair works carried out by previous contractors managed only to minimize water contamination in the adjacent underground areas. MTBE management is determined to solve this problem, as they need to comply with environmental regulations. Solution: Corroserv (M) Sdn Bhd custom formulated a tank lining system by combining Corro-Dur a range of solvent-less epoxy coatings / adhesives to water proof the entire tank. Concrete cracks were sealed by these moisture tolerant epoxies and Corro-Dur epoxy mortars reinforced the spalled areas. Then, Corro-Tech U. V. Pre-preg (Vinylester) is applied as an impenetratable waterproof lining that serves as a tank within a tank. Finally, our Corro-Dur 255 a novolac epoxy specifically formulated to withstand aggressive chemicals was recommended as the final topcoat. Result: The combination of Corro-Tech U.V Prepreg Vinylester version and Corro-Dur coatings / adhesives impressed the client as they have a new tank which will be of service for another decade at a minimal cost compared to building a new one and subsequently complying with environmental requirements.
