AT SEA

1. Advantages on Steel
2. Surface Preparation
  • About 1/3 the cost of dry dock painting.
  • Prepare 3 times the surface area in the same time in comparison to conventional primers.
  • Eliminate crew overtime for preparation and painting.
  • Non Flammable, NonToxic, VOC Compliant.
  • Improve crew performance with easy to use training aids and quality control tools.
  • Easy clean up with soap and water.
  • No mixing- it’s a one part product.
  • Crew can wait up to 30 days before top coating.
  • Clean surface to remove dirt, oil and salt before beginning surface preparation.
  • Use solvent wiping with clean rags or commercial cleaner, brush and rinse.
  • Optional- Spray area with Chlor*Rid diluted 100-1 to remove any salt that may be present.
  • If there is no rust present let the surface flash rust and dry overnight. Corroseal™ on steel works best when rust is present.
3. SSPC Surface Standards
4. Applying the Corroseal™
  • Most Marine Grade Primers call for surface prep to SSPC SP3.
  • Corroseal™ calls for surface prep to SSPC SP2.
  • SSPC studies indicate that SP2 is 3 times as fast as SP3.Crew can cover 3 times the area in the same man-hours or do the prep in 1/3 the time over conventional primer prep.
  • Use Corroseal™ to convert rust and prime the entire surface for top coating. Apply with a brush, roller or spray unit.
  • Check Corroseal™ with wet film gauge as it is applied.
  • Do all the areas and let it stand till the next day.
  • Conversion takes 24 hours. Don’t rush top coating.
5. Using Wet-Film Gauge
6. Apply Topcoats
  • Crew checks wet paint film thickness.
  • Correct wet paint film controls paint coverage.
  • Correct wet paint film prevents technical problems in drying.
  • Apply top coat to weatherproof the primer.
  • Corroseal™ will last as long as the top coat remains waterproof.
  • Use the wet film gauge to get the correct wet film thickness and to help eliminate osmotic failure.
  • Doing the entire area cuts down wasted paint or leftovers.
