DESCRIPTION
|
Step-Coat 185 is a unique
formulation designed to provide an improved surface on ladder
rungs, step edges and similar surfaces. It adheres tenaciously
to metal, wood, concrete and fiberglass. The product is part
of system which yields an easy to grip, heat and wear resistant
covering which is easily retrofitted over existing ladder rungs,
painted or unpainted.
The unique formulation minimizes
thermal effects from surfaces which are very cold or which have
become heated from extreme high temperature environments or
fires in enclosed spaces.
Step-Coat 185 is available in
a range of lead and chrome free colours including Safety Yellow
and Grey, and is formulated to be "non-regulated" by IATA, IMO
and USDOT for uncomplicated shipment by land, sea or air.

RECOMENDED USE
|
LADDER RUNGS, STEP
EDGES, ANTI-SLIP PADS. Especially useful in marine and industrial
environments to improve bare metal surfaces.
STEP EDGES, FALL HAZARDS. Use to mark unprotected edges
on loading ramps, platforms and similar areas.

SURFACE PREPARATION
|
Bare Metal Rungs or Steps - Degrease with detergent
or solvent - note appropriate safety and flammability rules
for solvents in enclosed spaces. Abrade the surface to increase
'key' with a coarse sandpaper, grinder or rasp.
Painted Metal Rungs in Poor Condition - Remove all flaking
or poorly adhered paint using blaster, grinder or paint removers.
Abrade as per above.
Painted Metal Rungs in Good Condition - Degrease using
solvent or detergent. Abrade to 'key'
Concrete, Wood, or Fibreglass Rungs or Steps - Clean,
degrease and abrade as required
|
|
APPLICATION
|
Basic Method - Mix
desired amount and apply at about 1.5mm thick (1/16th") to flat
surfaces using trowel, spatula or roller. To rungs, it is very
easy to apply by rubber gloved hand. Allow to cure approx 12
hours @ 25°C before light service. Full service after 24 hours.
Super Heavy Rung Application - Where an extremely
thick application is required on ladder rungs or other similar
shaped surface, use an intermediate fibre to hold the weight
of the extra thickness and reinforce and thicken the tread coating.
Apply a base coat as described above. Wrap a fibre bandage (Use
fibreglass tape or a standard cloth bandage) into the fresh
Step-Coat 185 in a spiral fashion around the rung. Pull down
gently as you go so the resultant surface is partly ' wetted'.
Apply another coat of Step-Coat 185 over the bandage 'wet' on
'wet'. Direct application with a gloved hand is very efficient
and will yield an attractive uniform and professional result.

MAINTENANCE
|
If surfaces become worn after long service, the worn areas alone
can be repaired. Apply fresh Step-Coat 185 over the existing
following cleaning. Mask of to get clean edges.
|
|
CURING
|
Allow 12 hrs @ 25°C for light service. Allow 24 hrs @25°C for
full service. Reaches full chemical resistant cure in 3 days.
|
|
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
|
Resistance to all fuels, oils, skydrol, hydraulic fluid, alkalies
and caustics in general use and acids up to 50% Sulphuric.
