DESCRIPTION
|
CORRO-DUR
561HT is based on a unique blend of liquid epoxy polymer and
aliphatic polyamine curing agents, which is able to displace water from wet
surfaces in order to make a permanent bond. The formulation is solvent-free to ensure safety and
maximum technical performance.
* Kevlar™
fibers are incorporated for reinforcement and viscosity management to
achieve high application rates and excellent film build - even underwater!
(This is a high temperature version of the original CORRO-DUR 561HT,
with exposure to dry heat at 200°C and wet heat to a maximum of 140°C).
CORRO-DUR
561HT provides permanent protection even under the most
adverse conditions. When
manufactured for Nuclear service it is qualified for Service Level l use
with above or below water application. The formula is uniquely field-friendly and uses advanced
low toxicity ingredients.

SURFACE
PREPARATION
|
|
Underwater
|
Remove marine biological settlement and
corrosion by high pressure water jetting or similar methods with or
without abrasive injection.
Conventional air/abrasive blasting works well at shallow depths
however efficiency falls off sharply below about 10ft. Hand held power
tools such as grinders or needle guns will give good results if applied
conscientiously in small areas but will be inadequate in large
areas. Plan to apply the CORRO-DUR
561HT within 30 - 45 minutes of surface preparation to minimize
rerusting or initial settlement of fouling which can interfere with
initial adhesion.
Conventional abrasive blasting using air abrasive or centrifugal
blasters are preferred methods of surface preparation in most cases where
oily or greasy contamination is not a problem.
|
|
Above water
|
Preparation requires similar high pressure
water blasting or dry abrasive blasting to yield a firm, granular surface
free of loose contamination.
|
|
|
MIXING
PROCEDURE
|
Thoroughly
mix Corro-Dur 561HT
epoxy base with the Corro-Dur
561HT curing agent at a ratio of 2:1 by volume. Be sure to incorporate
the components thoroughly especially along the edges and bottom of the
mixing container otherwise there may be places where the curing agent of
epoxy base are unmixed and will create spots that will never cure. Remove
two part of base and one part of curing agent from their cans and place
them side by side on a flat sheet of plastic, fiberboard, etc if mixing in
small amount. Once mixing begins there will be about 40 minutes of working
time available at 80°F (27°C).
This time can be extended by keeping the components and mixture
cool. Use straight edged spreader, trowel, mitts, or squeegee to apply the
epoxy on the prepared surface and allow to cure.
|
|
APPLICATION
|
|
Underwater
|
Take the mixed CORRO-DUR 561HT underwater
in a can or bucket, it will be helpful to have some method of holding the
container such as a hook or magnet on the structure especially if
visibility is poor and a lantern must also be carried. Applicators such as broad putty
knives or plastic straight edged glue spreaders work well on most
surfaces. Painters mitts
will work well on small diameter tubular sections such as risers. CORRO-DUR 561HT is
resistance to the effects of wave application during curing and will be
found to be easier to apply than traditional ‘splash zone ‘ compositions and much less messy than
lower viscosity underwater ‘paints’. CORRO-DUR 561HT has a strong tendency to stick
to underwater surfaces and expensive equipment should be protected using
plastic suits or sacks to cover exposed surfaces.
|
|
Above water
|
Apply using an appropriate
tool such as a spreader or short, stiff brush if the surface is
especially rough.
|
|
|
TEMPERATURE
|
CORRO-DUR 561HT may be applied in temperatures
as low as 45° (7°C) - curing will be slow, however the viscosity of the
material will still be workable.
Temperature will exert a considerable influence on the rate of
curing of chemically cured coatings such as CORRO-DUR 561HT. In broad terms expect each 10°C,
(18°F), rise or fall in temperature to half or double dry times and pot
lives.
